 Training Officer
Appointed
Chief Tam Gatje appointed Schmidt as Training Officer at the beginning of 2003. In the position of Training Officer he will coordinate all
of the training done by members of the Department. He will be responsible to
provide the appropriate training so both new and experienced members of the
department can gain the knowledge and experience needed to safely fight fires
and provide rescue services to the citizens of Pierre and surrounding areas. Schmidt, while a relatively new firefighter with the
Department, has shown himself to be an enthusiastic team player with the other
members. He completed the Certified Firefighter course as soon as possible after
joining the department. Many varied training activities are planned for the year
ahead, said Schmidt. “The challenge is to provide good, interesting training
that will draw the volunteers on a regular basis”, said Schmidt. Gatje said, “I believe Ron will be a great asset to the department and will see that the members have valuable training opportunities available to them. This should be an excellent year for training in the department.”

SD) – January 10, 2003 – Firefighter Ron Schmidt was recently appointed
Training Officer for the Pierre Fire Department. In December Schmidt earned the
“Rookie of The Year” award from the department. Representatives of all the
companies within the department select that recipient.
